At first spray, Honoré blurs the lines between masculinity and femininity. Resembling a still life painting of acrylic citruses displayed against a blackened backdrop, this scent masterfully captures the juxtaposition between light and dark while integrating olfactory polarity into an artistic whole. Bergamot and mandarin burst forth in a flood of vibrant orange, penetrating the crepuscular depths of white musk, bitter mugwort, and winteresque cypress. Like a veil of ambient shadows hovering in a dreamlike forest, these three notes enshroud the remainder in warm woodland tones, synthesizing into a mysterious background of midnight blue. Wisps of androgynous jasmine and clary sage paradoxically brighten such dark scenery, drifting like quicksilver florals before softening into an atmospheric glow. Imbued with multidimensional ambiguity, Honoré simultaneously eludes and invites—embodying the art of contrast.
Honoré was an Intelligence Officer for France’s “Renseignements Généraux” and was an active member of the Résistance during WWII. Through his ties to the government, Honoré obtained passports for victims of Nazi Germany and relocated them in the South of France, and he was later recognized and decorated for his selfless service. He took a calculated risk for the greater good and justice, and our family’s safety was threatened several times, in particular near the end of WWII, when the Vichy government identified him and sought his execution for his part as active combatant and harborer of displaced families. This fantastic fragrance pays homage to Honoré -our father and our grandfather, a man of high integrity and courage, and incorporates numerous flowers, aromatics and woods found in Grasse’s backcountry where Honoré spent much time.
